How to Install an APK on Android
Step-by-step: download an APK, allow installs from your browser, and open the app.
3 steps
Download the file
Tap Download on the app's download page. The file host opens in a new tab — use the host's own download button there. When it finishes, the .apk shows up in your notifications and in your Downloads folder.
Compare the file size with the one on our download page. A smaller file means the download was cut off — try another mirror.
Allow installs from your browser
Open the downloaded file. Android blocks installs from outside the Play Store until you allow them for the app you are installing from — usually your browser or file manager. If Android asks, tap Settings, turn on the permission, then go back.
To set it up yourself: Settings → Apps → your browser → Install unknown apps → Allow from this source (Android 8 and later). On older versions it is Settings → Security → Unknown sources. Menu names vary a little by phone brand.
Install and open
Tap Install, wait a few seconds, then tap Open. You only need to allow installs once per browser — later updates install the same way.
If the official app is already on your phone, uninstall it first: a build signed differently cannot install over it. Uninstalling removes that app's local data.
Something went wrong?
Most install errors come down to a few causes, from a leftover official app to a cut-off download.
